My memo to file - DO NOT BRING MY CAR!!

Years ago i was staying with a mate and his family in Renwick and now it was time to leave back to wgtn. We heard that weather was going to be bad. So his father a retired Dr gave me special motion sickness pills before i left and got ride from Renwick to Picton. When i got on ferry it was certaimly windy and wet. Half away along i feeling very good while third of fellow passengers were chucking into brown paper bags provided.and one guy comes up to me shocked that I still able to eat lunch with a beer in hand i was not affected by severe rock of the boat. Usually in heavy wealther my strategy to go to back of boat or go and pay to watch the movie ( something about been focused on a movie in a darkened room helps sea sickness) which is near to back of boat ..anyway.). to this day i never found out what those special pills were as they worked wonders and were certainly more powerful then the normal pills you buy in a chemist called sea legs!😮😂

The Strait is like a bag of "Fruit Bursts", you never know what you are gonna get!

Never been out in the open ocean but once and the captain of the charter vessel warned us at the dock that it was going to be rough. He offered anyone who wanted their money back to speak then because he wasn’t coming back in to drop off someone who was too sick/scared to continue. I wish I would’ve stayed on land . Never smelled so much vomit in my life and minutes seemed like hours. I have had zero interest in leaving land since then.

The Wellington Lyttleton ferry was as bad sometimes. I have tough guts and have had to curl my legs around the table leg in the bar to stay upright, I drove a truck on and off, backwards and forwards.

Traveled on this vessel a few times and the quality is horrendous, very low budget made and low tech, same standards like over in Indo and such, you can have 4 star dinning on a 50min crossing from Denmark to Germany and everything is modern.

I did this trip with my wife, daughter and dad in late 2007 or early 2008. They must have figured out how to secure the cars/loads better by then because it was literally the sky, the ocean, the sky, the ocean the whole way. Everyone was on the floor we went to the bar and people were tipping over backwards in their chairs and sliding across the floor. My wife vomited and I was close....😂 When we reached the harbor the boat looked like a hurricane had swept through the inside and there was vomit everywhere in the bathroom......everywhere! Walls, floor, sink, counter and some folks actually made it into the toilet and next to it and on top of it. I was shocked when we went to our car and it was still in place. I had crossed the strait a few times before (2000 and 2003) but those were summer trips and were smooth. My wife is a Kiwi so we used to go there every few years. She had family on both islands.

I just knew the Kiwi poof wasn't going to actually buy anything.

From an old Navy sailor . If you didn’t before, know that we are absolutely nothing compared to the sea and Mother Nature. Many crossings with many a storm, each one a little different but the one thing which holds true no matter what is the sea is the boss.

It's a good thing my kids didn't see this vid before we took the ferry for holiday this summer. They would've been so scared.
